Support for Fathers: DADurday Legacy

DADurday Legacy, Inc. is a proud 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering fathers in Lawrence by providing opportunities to actively engage in parenting with confidence and responsibility. Thanks to the generous support of the City of Lawrence, which granted up to $10,000 in June 2023, we have been able to invest in families and strengthen father-child relationships. With $6,600 in reimbursement funds from the city, we’ve hosted impactful community events and established valuable partnerships with other local nonprofits, expanding our reach to fathers seeking guidance and support. Our success would not be possible without the city’s commitment to family-centered initiatives—so to the City of Lawrence, we extend our heartfelt thanks!

Every DADurday event is made possible by dedicated volunteers, ensuring that 100% of all funds go directly toward programs that enhance father-child relationships. Through our initiatives, fathers have found a safe space to share their experiences, learn about their parenting responsibilities, and develop meaningful connections with their children. Our programming has helped fathers reengage with their kids, communicate more effectively with co-parents, navigate the court system, and, in some cases, even gain primary custody of their children. Above all, our mission is to provide every child with a responsible, engaged, and loving father who serves as a mentor and role model.

Our events are completely free and designed to build fathers’ confidence and self-esteem, ensuring they can fully enjoy and embrace their role in their child’s life. Many fathers have expressed feeling isolated within their own homes and communities, and DADurday events have helped bridge that gap. Over the past 18 months, we’ve organized numerous events to bring fathers and children together for unforgettable experiences:

  • Smooth Sailing
  • DADurday on Campagnone Common
  • Flying High
  • New England Patriots Experience
  • Fishing With Dad

What Is Being a Modern Dad?

The expectations of a modern father have evolved significantly, emphasizing active involvement, emotional support, and shared responsibilities in parenting. Today, fathers are expected to be more than just providers; they are caregivers, mentors, and equal partners in raising their children. A modern father is present in his child’s life, engaging in day-to-day activities such as helping with schoolwork, attending extracurricular events, and fostering open communication. Emotional intelligence plays a key role, as fathers are now encouraged to express affection, provide a safe space for their children’s feelings, and support their overall well-being.

Additionally, modern fatherhood involves balancing work and family life, often requiring flexibility to accommodate parental duties. Society also expects fathers to model respect, responsibility, and integrity, shaping their children’s values through positive behavior. Whether in traditional, blended, or single-parent families, fathers today are expected to actively nurture their children’s growth, ensuring they feel loved, supported, and prepared for the future.
